Licensing

What's the difference between a lease and exclusive rights?
A lease is a non-exclusive licence: you can release a song on the beat within set limits, and others can lease it too. Exclusive rights mean nobody else can license the beat after you, and it's removed from the store. See the licensing comparison.
Which licence should I buy?
For demos or a first release, the Basic MP3 Lease (£29.99) is fine. For a proper single on streaming, most artists choose the Premium WAV Lease. If you have an engineer mixing your song, get the Trackout (Stems) Lease. Expecting big numbers? Go Unlimited.
What happens when I reach my stream or sales limit?
You'll need to upgrade before you go over. You only pay the difference between your current tier and the new one. Just contact us with your order number.
How long does a lease last?
Leases last 10 years from purchase, or until you reach the licence's distribution or stream caps, whichever comes first. You can upgrade or renew at any time and pay only the difference.
Can I upload my song to Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube?
Yes. Every lease allows distribution to all major platforms within its caps. You can't register the song with YouTube Content ID on a lease, as that causes false claims against other licensees.
Can I use a beat in a film, advert or video game?
Synchronisation (film, TV, adverts, games, trailers) is not included in any lease. Contact us for a sync licence.

Credits & publishing

Do I have to credit the producer?
Yes. Credit is required on all releases: “Prod. by Samu Soul” in the title or credits/metadata wherever the platform allows.
How does publishing work?
Samu Soul retains 50% of the writer's share of the composition (the underlying musical work) on all leases. You keep 100% of the writer's share of your lyrics and topline melody, meaning the composition is typically registered 50% Samu Soul / 50% you (split between all co-writers of the lyrics). Register the song with your PRO (e.g. PRS for Music) and list Samu Soul as a writer.
Who owns my song?
You own the new master recording you create (your vocals + the licensed beat) for the uses allowed by your licence. Copyright in the underlying instrumental stays with the producer.

Delivery & files

How do I receive my files?
Instantly. Download links appear on the confirmation page straight after payment and are emailed to you. Links last 72 hours; if they expire, use Resend my downloads with your order number and we'll email fresh links and your licence PDF.
What are stems / trackouts?
Stems (trackouts) are the individual parts of the beat (drums, bass, melodies, FX) exported as separate WAV files, so your engineer can mix your vocals properly. They come with the Trackout, Unlimited and Exclusive licences.
Are the previews tagged?
Yes, previews contain a voice tag. The files you buy are untagged.

Refunds & payments

Can I get a refund?
Because downloads are delivered instantly, all sales are final once your download is available, and you agree to this at checkout under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. We will always fix or refund faulty, corrupt or undelivered files and duplicate purchases. Read the Refund Policy.
What payment methods do you accept?
Debit and credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay via Stripe, and PayPal. All prices are in GBP (£).

Exclusives

How do I buy exclusive rights?
Choose “Exclusive Rights” on any beat and click Make an offer, or use the contact form. Offers start from £500. We'll agree terms and send a contract to sign.
I already leased the beat. Can I upgrade to exclusive?
Yes, and what you paid for the lease is credited towards the exclusive price.
What happens to other people's leases when a beat sells exclusively?
If the beat is later sold exclusively, your lease remains valid under its original terms until it expires, but it can no longer be renewed or upgraded.
